Schaumburg Regional Airport has received the 2018 Airport of the Year award from the Illinois Department of Transportation.
The airport was selected because of its accomplishments throughout the year, including an outstanding partnership with IDOT and a strong commitment to customer safety and satisfaction. Among the award considerations are cooperation and coordination with the state, facility safety record, promotion of seminars and aviation events, and maintenance of the facility. A total of six airports in Illinois received the honor.
At the Airport
The village recently completed the installation of an Automated Weather Observation Station (AWOS) at the Schaumburg Regional Airport (SRA). The AWOS unit provides pilots flying in and out of Schaumburg Regional Airport with accurate and up-to-date weather information which is essential to safe operation of the airfield. Weather information reported by the AWOS unit includes wind speed and direction, temperature, visibility, and precipitation. Prior to the installation of the unit, pilots had to rely on weather information from other airports in the region. Design, construction, and installation of the AWOS unit was paid for using federal, state and local funds.
The public is invited to all airport events, so please check back to this webpage for any future events. Over the years there have been special events conducted at the airport including:
