The Village of Schaumburg has a partnership with Nextdoor, a private social network for neighborhoods, to improve village-wide and neighbor-to-neighbor communications and encourages residents to register for the free service.
Nextdoor assists neighbors in creating online communities for their neighborhoods where they can ask questions, get to know one another and exchange local advice and recommendations.
With Nextdoor, Schaumburg residents can join private neighborhood websites to share information, including neighborhood public safety issues, community events and activities, local services and even lost pets.
The village also has the ability to post information, such as important news, services, programs, public events, and emergency notifications to Nextdoor websites within the village. The village is using the tool to build stronger, better informed neighborhoods throughout Schaumburg; noting that Nextdoor is not an appropriate tool to request emergency services or to report criminal activity. Residents are reminded to dial 911 for emergencies.
Nextdoor is free for residents and the village. Each neighborhood within Schaumburg has its own private Nextdoor neighborhood website, accessible only to residents who verify that they live in the neighborhood. Neighborhoods establish and self-manage their own Nextdoor websites and the village is not able to access residents’ websites, contact information or content. Information shared on Nextdoor is password protected and cannot be accessed by search engines.
Nextdoor is available on iPhone and Android. Anyone interested in joining their neighborhood’s Nextdoor website can visit their website and enter their address to get started. If residents have questions about their Nextdoor website, please visit Nextdoor's help page.
