The Village of Schaumburg encourages the public to celebrate National Bike Month in May and is offering a variety of fun activities to get people moving throughout the month.
New this year is a calendar of bike activities that is available of the village’s website at http://bit.ly/2pdAJq4. The calendar includes coordinated bike rides with the Schaumburg Bicycle Club, clinics with Bike Connection, and classes at the Schaumburg Park District, as well as Bike to School events. In addition, customers are able to receive free appetizers and entrees from the Restaurant of the Week if they present a selfie of themselves on their bicycle to staff at participating restaurants.
Businesses and organizations are being encouraged to gather teams of four and participate in the Business Bike Classic where riders will record their bicycle mileage for anywhere a team member bicycles during the month of May for a chance to win a trophy and prizes. Mileage from spinning and stationary bikes is eligible to be counted. Teams may register online at http://bit.ly/businessbikeclassic.
Also included on the calendar is the popular Fahrrad Tour von Schaumburg, which is open to the public. The event, which is sponsored by the Village of Schaumburg and the Schaumburg Park District, will kick off at noon on Sunday, May 19 from the Robert O. Atcher Municipal Center Plaza, 101 Schaumburg Court.
Participants will ride in a tour approximately 4.5 miles long, utilizing both on and off-street bike paths throughout neighborhoods and parks surrounding Schaumburg’s municipal center grounds. Beginners and riders with training wheels are not advised to participate.
Before riding, all participants must sign a liability waiver, which will be available prior to the start of the event at the Robert O. Atcher Municipal Center Plaza. Immediately following the ride, a picnic-style lunch will be served and musical entertainment provided by a DJ who will participate in games with the children.
