The Village of Schaumburg is hosting two upcoming recycling events in April to encourage responsible waste management practices within the community. Participants will have the opportunity to safely dispose of unwanted items while contributing to a cleaner, greener environment.

The drive-up Document Destruction Event will take place from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, April 11 in the parking lot of the Al Larson Prairie Center for the Arts, 201 Schaumburg Ct. in Schaumburg. Please enter at Prairie Center Drive from Schaumburg Road. Schaumburg residents are invited to bring two Bankers Boxes of their confidential documents for secure shredding. Paper clips, staples and envelopes are allowed; however, CDs, plastic bags, spiral notebooks and 3-ring binders are not permitted. Identification is required as this event is open to Schaumburg residents only.

The community-wide Recycling Event will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 25 in the west parking lot of Wintrust Field, 1999 S. Springinsguth Rd. in Schaumburg. No identification will be required to participate in this community event.

Docu-Shred will offer document destruction that will be available until the truck reaches capacity. There will be a limit of two boxes per vehicle, no exceptions. No business or institutional documents will be accepted. This is a drop-and-go event.

Earthpaint will accept both latex and oil-based paint for recycling for a fee. Charges range from $2.99 per quart and $5.99 per gallon for latex paint and up to $5.99 per quart and $9.99 per gallon for oil-based paint and stains. A full list of fees is listed on the village’s website. Earthpaint will accept cash or credit onsite. Charges will be based on the type of can that is disposed of, not on the amount of material in the can.

Additionally, electronic items, such as computers, printers, telephones, cell phones, radios, small appliances, microwaves, holiday light strands, extension cords, and computer wiring will be accepted. A $25 fee (credit card onsite only) will apply for each television or monitor. Please visit the village’s website at for a complete list of all accepted electronic items.

The Community Recycling Event will also accept books, clothing, textiles, automotive and household batteries, motor oil and antifreeze, bicycles, American flags, fire extinguishers and compact fluorescent light (CFL) bulbs.

Items such as paint thinner, gas, cooking oil, gas cylinders or Freon-containing items such as air conditioners and dehumidifiers, household chemicals, or other hazardous waste will not be accepted.
