The Village of Schaumburg invites the public to attend its Engineering & Public Works Open House that will be held from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Saturday, May 16 at the Engineering & Public Works facility, 714 S. Plum Grove Rd. in Schaumburg. The event is free and open to all ages.
Participants will be offered a unique experience that allows residents and children to get a behind-the-scenes look at what skills, tools and equipment are required to maintain the village’s infrastructure. The event will include touch-a-truck, equipment displays, informational booths, demonstrations, free giveaways, snacks and more. Kona Ice will also be on-site for purchase.
Students enrolled in kindergarten through 6th grade are invited to participate in the K-6 Student Drawing Contest. To enter, young artists are asked to submit drawings on the theme “What Public Works Means to You.” Winners of each grade category (K-3 and 4-6) will be awarded a personalized street sign and honored at the open house. Recognizing the urgent needs of animals at local rescue organizations, the village is proud to collect items and monetary donations at the Public Works Open House to benefit the Almost Home Foundation and Chicagoland Dog Rescue. The public may bring leashes and collars (all sizes), large pee pads, unopened Purina One Plus wet puppy food (Classic Ground Healthy Puppy Lamb – canned and dry), Kong Goodie Bones, catnip toys and feather cat toys, blankets, sheets, pillows and large comforters, pet gates, and gift cards to Petco, PetSmart, or Chewy. Items can also be ordered through the Amazon wish list to be delivered to the Public Works facility. Early donation drop-offs are welcome through Friday, May 15.
