Residential Rentals (townhouse, condo or quad)

Residential Rental License Title 9, Chapter 123.03 of the Village Code states that all leased, commercial or rented property must hold a valid rental license through the Village of Schaumburg. Rental licenses are valid through December 31 and must be renewed annually. Renewal notices are sent to owners in November. Please note staff cannot take payments over the phone. Payments can be mailed to or dropped off at the temporary Village Hall, 1000 E. Woodfield Rd., or paid online through WebPay.

Residential rental properties require a full-year payment of $75. Payments increase to $112.50 on January 1 if past due. If purchased after July 1, the pro-rated fee is $37.50 for the remainder of the calendar year.

NEW for Associations & Apartment Complexes renewing their License for 2026

Associations and Apartment Complexes needing to renew their Rental License for 2026 will need to use the new Association/Apartment Rental License Application on OpenGov. The new OpenGov system will handle all association and apartment rental license applications and renewals going forward. After staff review and approve the application, the applicant will receive a notification to pay their license fees.

The application will ask associations to list any units on your property that are being rented. If applicable, the owner’s name(s), address(es), phone number(s) and email(s) will be required.

Short-Term Rentals

Short-term rental properties require a full-year payment of $300. Inspections will be conducted annually on these properties. Hotel tax must be collected and remitted to the Village. Requirements - Hotel Tax Packet. Use the online Short-Term Rental Application to apply.

Single Family Home Rentals

Licenses require a full-year payment of $125 and payments increase to $187.50 after January 1 if past due. Inspections will be conducted every three years on these properties. Contact our Code Enforcement Division for more information at (847) 923-3700.

- Complete the Crime Free Housing Seminar
Short-Term Rental Application
- Complete the Crime Free Housing Seminar first
- Take a screenshot of the completion page.
- Then complete the application for review and approval.
Pay the appropriate fee
Once the application, seminar, and payment have been verified your rental license will be issued and mailed except for Short-Term Rental which will be issued electronically.
- Allow two weeks for processing after payment has been submitted.
If you do not need a rental license but are interested in taking the Crime Free Multi-Housing Training Certification offered by the Village of Schaumburg, you may do so by selecting it from the list below.

If you have family living in the property and are not collecting rent, you will not need to purchase the rental license. Just complete the Family Living in Unit acknowledgment form and email to RentalLicense@schaumburg.com.
