School Visit Curriculum

Public Education Officer, Lisa Bezella, visits all Kindergarten through 4th grade students in Schaumburg public and private schools. She also visits a majority of preschools throughout the village. Below is the school curriculum program and topics covered during these fire and life safety visits.

PreK-4th Grade Curriculum

  • Intro to smoke alarms

  • Smoke alarms (get out and stay out: It’s your job!)

1st grade:

  • Smoke alarms (testing and placement)
  • Exit drills in the home (2 ways out) / safe meeting place
  • Calling 9-1-1

2nd grade:

  • Carbon monoxide
  • Identifying exits
  • Avoiding burns

3rd grade:

  • First aid (cuts and burns)
  • Fire triangle/tetrahedron
  • Electrical safety

4th grade:

  • Severe weather safety
  • Cooking safety
