What is a Beat?
The Village of Schaumburg is divided into 10 patrol beats. In 1996, as part of the transition to community policing, permanent beat and shift assignments were created. All officers select a shift and beat for the entire calendar year. The beat team concept was also developed. Each of the patrol field sergeants (one per beat) is responsible for an entire beat as the beat coordinator. The rest of the team includes three patrol officers and three relief officers.
