Mission Statement

Managing a safe, sustainable, integrated, and efficient transportation network to enhance the experience of those living, visiting, doing business, or working in Schaumburg.

Roadway Information

Streets within Schaumburg are classified based on a variety of characteristics, such as design speed and traffic volumes. Additionally, the jurisdiction of the streets also varies to multiple agencies such as Illinois Department of Transportation, Illinois State Toll Highway Authority, Cook County Department of Transportation and Highways and of course, the Village of Schaumburg. View a map depicting the roadway classifications within the village. For information pertaining to roadways outside the village's jurisdiction, follow the links below.

Public Transportation

The Village of Schaumburg offers a variety of Transportation options including the Woodfield Trolley, Dial-A-Ride Transportation (DART), Metra Train Service, Pace Bus Service as well as Senior Transportation Services.

The RTA (Regional Transportation Authority) also offers convenient rider resources that will describe how to use the train and bus services in the city and suburbs. Simply put in the beginning and ending address, and the guide will describe which bus routes and train routes to take, along with times and locations.

Below are two websites that can be used to search for ways to get from one point to another using buses and trains.

Schaumburg Regional Airport

The village also operates a public use general aviation airport encompassing 117 acres in both Cook County and DuPage County. The airport is home to numerous businesses including an award-winning restaurant, aircraft charters, flight training, airplane and helicopter rides, aircraft maintenance, local news helicopters, and other aviation-related businesses.

Located at 905 W. Irving Park Road, it is easily accessible from I-390 by exiting at Wright Boulevard. The Schaumburg Regional Airport is home to approximately 90 aircraft and handles about 35,000 operations per year while generating a total economic impact of over $18.9 million annually to the region.

Bicycle Network

Schaumburg is also proud of providing its residents and visitors with an award-winning bicycle network. The village was the first community in Illinois recognized by the League of American Bicyclists as a Bicycle Friendly Community and was recertified with a Bronze level designation by the League in its most recent review. Click on the Bicycle Home Page for more information.

Special Notice

Although village facilities are reopened to the public, the village strongly encourages the public to use established “no-contact” methods of conducting business such as paying monthly airport hangar and tie down rent online through WebPay. If online methods are not possible, in-person business for the Transportation Department will be conducted via appointment only. Please contact the Transportation Department at 847.923.3861 in advance of arriving to arrange an appointment for service.
