Schaumburg Celebrates Bike Month

The village celebrates Bike Month in June by organizing a full month of activities for individuals at any skill level. There are opportunities for all to participate whether you are a resident, student or part of the workforce in Schaumburg.

Fahrrad Tour von Schaumburg

The Village of Schaumburg and Schaumburg Park District will host the Fahrrad Tour von Schaumburg on Sunday, June 1. This family-friendly bicycle tour will include a police escort when biking along or crossing a street. Following the ride, participants can enjoy a picnic lunch at the Meineke Recreation Center.

Pre-registration is required on the Schaumburg Park District's website: Fahrrad Pre-Registration Link
Riders must arrive for check-in starting at 10:30 a.m.
The tour kicks off at 11:00 a.m., on the dot.
This event is FREE and open to the public.
The five-mile ride will begin and end at the Meineke Recreation Center, located at 220 E Weathersfield Way.

All participants must sign a liability waiver prior to departure.

PARKING RESTRICTIONS: To make the route safer for riders, the Village is prohibiting on-street parking on Crandell Lane and Bentley Lane from 9:30 am to 11:30 am on June 1. More information can be found here: Fahrrad Parking Restrictions

7th Annual Business Bike Classic

To celebrate Bike Month in June, the Village of Schaumburg organizes the Business Bike Classic team bicycle challenge.

Business Bike Classic Details:

The contest is open to any business or business organization employing four or more people with a designated workplace in Schaumburg.
Teams of four record their cycling mileage completed during the month of June.
Each team member is required to sign up for the Schaumburg Business Bike Classic Strava Club. Once your team is registered for the challenge, please follow the link listed above to request access to the private club. Strava is free to join and it is easy to record, manually input, or import mileage. This program increases accountability for the competition and give riders the opportunity to interact with each other.
Team leaders register their team online through this registration link.
Team names must be in good taste and include the name of the agency being represented.
Each team member must sign a Waiver of Release to participate.

Each Friday in June, team leaders will receive a mileage link to submit their team’s mileage.
Cumulative results will be distributed for teams in the novice, intermediate, and advanced tiers (totaling up to 650 miles, 651-1,500 miles, and 1,501+ miles, respectively).
The top teams and individuals in each tier will win prizes and be recognized on the village’s communication channels. The team with the most completed miles in the entire competition will be awarded the traveling Business Bike Classic trophy at Village Board.

In 2024, the 6th Annual Business Bike Classic featured 12 teams from 6 Schaumburg agencies, and participants completed a combined total of 12,729 miles. The Village of Schaumburg congratulates Team “Zurich – Z Cycle de Lego” for riding the most miles in the entire competition!

2nd Annual Friends & Family Bike Classic

To celebrate Bike Month in June, the Village of Schaumburg organizes the Friends & Family Bike Classic team bicycle challenge.

Friends and Family Bike Classic Details:

This challenge is open to all Schaumburg residents living within village municipal boundaries.
Friends and family members assemble teams of four and record their cycling mileage completed during the month of June.
Team leaders register their team online through this registration link.
Team names must be in good taste.
Each team member must sign a Waiver of Release to participate.
Each Friday in June, team leaders will receive a mileage link to submit their team's mileage.
Cumulative results will be ranked, and the top three teams will win prizes and be recognized on the village's community communication channels.

Bike to Metra Day

Bike to Metra Day is Thursday, June 26 between 7:00am - 9:00am at the Schaumburg Metra Station, located at 2000 S. Springinsguth Rd., Schaumburg, IL 60193.

This event promotes bicycling as a commuting option and raises awareness for commuters that ride to and from work. The event will also highlight the amenities at the Schaumburg Metra Station including Johnny’s Coffee Shop, 40 free enclosed bicycle lockers, and 48 additional covered bicycle parking spaces.

Staff will be onsite near the bicycle lockers on the north side of the train tracks. Participating bicyclists will be greeted with a voucher for a complimentary coffee and snack from Johnny's Coffee Shop located inside the Schaumburg Metra Station. No registration is required for this activity.
