Pat Dahmen MA, LMFT
In 1994, I proudly joined the first class of Psychotherapists in the State of Illinois ever to be licensed to practice Marriage and Family Therapy. As a lifelong learner, I use proven treatment methods and coaching tools to help men, women, children and families learn to practice behaviors known to predict long-term relationship success. I specialize in Marriage and Family Therapy, anxiety, depression, anger management, domestic violence, grief, and PTSD. Whether it is helping couples strengthen marriages or assisting others to manage their healthy living goals, I help clients improve their lives.
In 1981, I earned undergraduate degrees in Psychology and Sociology at the University of Wisconsin in Whitewater. I then began my professional career in the town I was born in, Madison, Wisconsin, and gained experience working with teenage populations at the Dane County Shelter Home and with the mentally ill population at Goodwill Industries. In 1983, I moved to Illinois after being hired as the Challenge Adventure program coordinator and as an outreach counselor for Youth Services of Elk Grove Township. After completing an M.A. in Clinical Psychology from Roosevelt University in 1989, I formally began a lifelong career as a marriage and family therapist at the Village of Schaumburg Family Counseling Center.
I also have advanced skills and certifications to treat Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), and I empower people to overcome traumatic events and recover from the potential lingering and longstanding effects of Domestic Violence and other forms of abuse. For more than 23 years, I have had the distinction of being a seasoned EMDR practitioner, and I help individuals find the pathways of relief that many have said they never thought possible.
Justina Wang MA, LMFT
Born and raised in Columbus, Ohio, I have a great appreciation for the Midwest and the down-to-earth people that live here. I love that the Chicagoland area is the perfect mix of diverse people, events, and activities while having the welcoming atmosphere of a smaller town. I originally moved here to get my Masters degree in Clinical Psychology from Wheaton College, and I have never looked back. It has been a pleasure to use my training in Marriage and Family Therapy to serve the residents of Schaumburg.
For the last five years, I have worked with individuals, couples, and families as young as five years old all the way to older adulthood. I have supported clients as they navigate a wide range of issues including anxiety, depression, grief/loss, anger issues, life transition issues, young adult issues, premarital counseling, marital counseling, infidelity, parenting difficulties, children's behavioral issues, self-harm, multicultural considerations, religious considerations, and more. With a bachelor's degree in education, I also enjoy working with children and teens using play therapy, art therapy, and talk therapy to help them express their feelings and needs.
I hope that my warm approach can help you tap into your strengths so you can work towards emotional and relational healing. I will also use research-based practices to help you explore and change thought patterns, relational patterns, and past experiences that may affect you in the present so you can achieve a healthier and happier life.
